Official Adblock Plus Android App Released Blocks Ads On Rooted Non Rooted Devices
Official Adblock Plus Android App Released; Blocks Ads On Rooted & Non-Rooted Devices:

The official Android app for Adblock Plus - the favorite ad blocking solution for many Chrome and Firefox users – has just been released in the Google Play Store. Unlike most existing alternatives, Adblock Plus for Android is available for free as a fully functional version, and works on rooted as well as non-rooted devices. From the mobile viewpoint, Adblock Plus helps you get rid of intrusive and annoying ads, banners, ad-oriented notifications et al within almost the entire OS, including the notification shade, home screen, browsers and apps. Adblock Plus’ effectiveness is very much dependent on whether your Android device has root access or not. While users with rooted devices get the full monty, those with non-rooted devices have to face a few restrictions. Details to follow.
It should not come as a surprise that the app’s complete feature set is available only on rooted devices. If you’re thinking of rooting your device, you might want to go through our comprehensive compilation of Android root guides.
The mileage for non-rooted device owners however, may vary depending on the Android version they’re running. For instance, Adblock Plus is meant to block ads over Wi-Fi only on non-rooted devices running Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher.
On the other hand, users currently stuck on older Android versions (Froyo, Gingerbread & Honeycomb etc) will have to follow the proxy tweaking guidelines to extract some benefit out of Adblock Plus. It’s also worth mentioning here that, the app neither works on certain SSL encrypted websites as desired, nor does it support running effectively on Firefox for Android unless you use an additional plug-in.

The app’s UI comprises just a toggle for triggering the Adblock Plus service, and another option to select the required filter from as many as 11 different available options. Proceeding to the app’s advanced settings screen, you get the additional options to automatically activate the app’s services on device reboot, specify the required subscription refresh mode, and a toggle to refresh content over Wi-Fi only. On a slightly annoying note, there is no option to get rid of the app’s icon from the notification bar. However, considering the utility of the app, this can be dismissed as merely a minor annoyance.
Overall, Adblock Plus could prove to be a godsend for Android users who find all the various on-screen ads on their devices vexing, and want to get rid of them without shelling out a penny. Hopefully, future updates of the app will bring the option to whitelist select apps for which ads should not be blocked entirely.
Adblock Plus has been successfully tested on Samsung Galaxy S running Android 4.1.1.

Remote Desktop App TeamViewer Touch Comes To Windows 8
Remote desktop applications are a great way to diagnose and solve problems on other computers over the internet. Remote access can be of multiple types; some connections allow you to just view the desktop screen, and whatever is happening on it, while others equip you with the ability to control almost all the aspects of a remote computer, letting you access different software, open menus, and perform actions as if you’re physically present in front of it. People who frequently have to deal with complex computer issues can benefit from such solutions by providing remote access to someone who knows how to fix such problems. One of the most famous remote desktop solutions out there is TeamViewer, which is currently available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. Using TeamViewer, you can remotely control your computer from any Teamviewer-configured system. Today, TeamViewer has released the preview version of TeamViewer Touch, a Modern UI app that will allow you to remotely control computers from your Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT-powered devices.
In order to get TeamViewer Touch, go to Windows Store, use Win+Q hotkey to bring up Search Charms. Now, type “teamviewer touch” and press enter. From the search results, choose the tile named TeamViewer Touch to open its in-Store page.
Once you are on the main page, you can read its description, checkout user reviews and download the app to your computer. Click the Install button available on the left side to quickly download and install the app to your computer.
When you run the app, you are greeted with a rather simple interface, that allows you to instantly connect to remote computers. If you have a TeamViewer account, you can sign in using your credentials from the right side.In the left side, enter the ID of the remote computer in order to connect and control it. Once you have entered the ID, you will need a password to complete the authentication process.
As soon as you enter the password, it starts establishing a remote connection with the computer. You now have access to every element of the remote system. It lets you gain complete control over the remote computer by allowing you to execute applications and make changes to different system settings.
Right-click inside the app to reveal options for using Ctrl+Alt+Del hotkey, moving the display to Next Monitor (if multiple monitors are connected to the remote computer) and Keyboard (for tablet devices).
Pressing Win + I gives you access to the settings charms from the right side, from where you can open the Event Log to view activities performed during the session.
TeamViewer Touch works on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 8. We tested it on Windows 8 64-bit.

Hide System Tray Icons App Windows Or Any Part Of The Taskbar
The taskbar works like a control center for Windows that allows you manage all the running applications, launch new ones through pinned shortcuts, access the Start Menu and view the system tray items such as running services, time clock etc. The default taskbar options in Windows 7 allow you to change the Taskbar appearance, including the grouping and size of icons, the Notification area, and use of Aero Peek. Moreover, there are options to customize the Start Menu and choose the toolbars that you want to be available on the taskbar. Today, we have a tool for you called Taskbar Hide, which provides users with a lot of taskbar related options, such as hiding or closing program windows, hiding system tray icons, modifying the order of running applications on taskbar, setting application windows to stay on top, hiding a part of the taskbar, etc. The program lets you deal with the application and system tray icons individually to control the taskbar’s appearance. All the options can be accessed through the main interface, as well as using hotkeys.
When you run the application for the first time, it asks you to enter a registration code. This registration is completely voluntary, if you want to help the developer; otherwise, all the features of the application can be used for free with no limitations, by clicking the Skip button.

The main interface has two tabs accessible from the bottom, named Taskbar and Tray. The Taskbar tab contains the titles of all the open application windows, while the Tray tab displays a list of all the currently running services.

In order to hide the apps from the taskbar, just select any app from the list, followed by selecting the corresponding button from the top. Other than the ‘Hide selected applications’ button, the top bar provides you with options to Show selected application window, Close selected application window, Minimize selected application window to the system tray, Modify application window order on taskbar, Hide any part of the taskbar etc. When you hide a window, its status will change to ‘Hide’ from ‘Show’.

The Menu button at the top left corner also lets you perform all the aforementioned actions, displays the hotkey for each operation, and lets you access the Settings dialog box.

The Settings menu lets you change the Common settings, and specify custom hotkeys for performing the available actions.

Taskbar Hide works on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.
