Set Reminders For Unreplied Emails In Gmail With Notifus For Chrome
Emails are one of the first things we attend to when we start work in the morning, but reading all the new emails for the day isn’t the only thing one has to do; answering emails and following up on previous ones is important too, and that’s often difficult because there’s always so much to follow up on. Notifus is a Chrome extension that acts as an alarm clock for unanswered emails. When you compose an important email or one intended for someone who is highly unlikely to get back to you on time without sufficient nagging, you set a reminder for the email. The alarm can be set for a minimum of 1 day and a maximum of any number of days. Repeat reminders can be set at the time of sending the email as well.
Notifus adds six buttons to the Compose email view, one each for setting a reminder for 1-6 days and one for adding a custom number of days. The buttons act as send buttons too, so click them only after you have composed, proofread and added attachments to your message. To set repeated alerts, click the “Send & 1D” button. The alerts notify you if the email hasn’t been replied to at the end of the time you’ve set, i.e., if you email someone on December 24, 2012, and set a two day alert, the extension will notify you of the pending reply on December 26, 2012. If you’ve already received a reply, the alert will deactivate on its own.
The first time you use Notifus, you will be asked to authenticate your account and create a password for it. It takes less than a minute, since your email address is already there.
Once set, Notifus shows a timer when a message is open. You can remove the alert you’ve set by clicking the cross that appears next to it.
Notifus is useful but needs improvement. At present, alerts and timers show up only when you have a particular message open, and not when you are in the inbox view. The logic behind it that you shouldn’t have to worry about these messages since even if you archive them, the alerts will actively keep track of them. Despite that, some users might prefer to have a cursory look at how many of their emails have not been unanswered. The alert is a good backup in case you forget about an email, but knowing just which tasks are still pending would be a huge help. The alerts can only be set in number of days; adding support for specifying the time would also be great. Overall, Notifus is good to have around as a safety net. Do note that it currently does not work on the new Gmail compose view.

Sync Open Tabs Across Devices in Chrome
Google Chrome has a nice feature where you can sync all your open tabs across all your devices. Anywhere you can install Chrome, you can set it up so that you can see all the other open tabs on all your other Chrome installs.
It’s a very slick feature and works really well. I’ve been using it on my Windows 7 PC, MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad and it’s been great. It’s so useful when I’m browsing at home and then have to leave to go somewhere and I can just pull up the tabs on my iPhone.
The process is pretty easy and to get started, you need to open Chrome and click on the Wrench icon. Click on Settings.
Here, you want to sign into Chrome using your Google account. Once you have done so, you can click on the Advanced sync settings button.
Here is where you choose what you want to sync.
You can choose to Sync everything, which includes open tabs or you can click on Choose what you want to sync and check the boxes manually.
That’s about it. now all you have to do is install Chrome on your other devices, go to Settings and sign into Chrome. Make sure that you have syncing turned on for the other devices as well.
When you open a new tab in Chrome, you’ll see an option called Other devices. Click on that and you’ll see all the open tabs on your other devices!
The only issue I have seen is that sometimes it takes a while for the tabs to sync. Unfortunately, as of now, there is no way to manually refresh the list of open tabs on other devices. Hopefully, that’ll be something you can do in the future. Enjoy!
Use Multiple Google Accounts in Chrome Web Browser
I have always found it annoying having to use multiple browsers to sign into several Google accounts. I’ve also found it annoying that I had to install add-ons and extensions in browsers like Firefox to get it to work properly.
Personally, I like to use Google Chrome and none of the other browsers. In every other browser, you have to install some kind of add-on or extension to sign into multiple Google accounts in the same browser. Luckily, with recent versions of Google Chrome, this is now a built in feature!
I have no idea when it was released, but I just found it while playing around in the settings for Chrome. In this article, I’ll walk you through the steps to set it up and show you how it works.
Using Chrome with Multiple Users
To get started, click on the Wrench icon and then click on Settings.
Now click on Add new user at the bottom under Users.
It’ll pop up a new instance of Google Chrome and ask you to sign in:
Once you enter your email and password, you’ll see it says you are now signed into Chrome. You’ll also notice another big change: a big icon sitting at the top right of your browser window:
When you click on it, you can see the list of users. Now in Chrome on PC, the icon shows up at the far left instead of the far right. When you click on the icon, you’ll see a list of users. By default, if you haven’t customized anything, it’ll call the original user First user and it’ll just create a random name for the second user, Sneaky or AgentX or some other random name.
If you go back to Settings in Chrome, click on the (Current) user and then click on the Edit button.
Now you can give the user a more practical name and also choose a different icon from their small selection.
In order to edit the other user, you have to switch to that user using the icon at the top of the browser window. Then go to Settings and then click Edit again. Here are my two users setup after the customizations:
It works great and you can sign into multiple Google accounts at the same time. The only downside currently that I see is that it opens the new user in a new Chrome window. It would be nice if they could somehow get it to work so that you could open a different user account in a separate tab in the same window! But other than that, it’s way easier than installing add-ons and logging in multiple times, etc, etc. Enjoy!
How to Check the Password Beneath Asterisks in Firefox and Chrome
Sometimes you may forget the password of an account. However, if you had been asking your browser to remember the username and password for your account, you might just be able to log in. That’s because the username and the password are pre-filled in a login form if the browser has them stored.In such a scenario you may be lucky enough to retrieve your password either from your account or from the browser memory. We have discussed that under finding saved passwords in Firefox and Chrome.
Now, consider another scenario – say, you are typing a password and you are sure that you are typing it right. But, somehow you’re repeatedly shown that the password is incorrect. Maybe your keyboard isn’t functioning properly and you are indeed typing the password incorrectly. Maybe it is something else.
There is a quick trick to help you get out of these situations and read the password hidden under the asterisks. We will show you how to do that on Chrome and Firefox. And, we will do so with the help of Inspect Element feature.
Cool Tip: If you fear storing your passwords on Firefox you may want to give a try to its Master Password feature.
The best part about the trick is that it is not a permanent setting. So, you do not have to worry about having changed the password field to text. It is one-time and is valid for the session in hand only.
Step 2: Right-click on the password field and then click on Inspect element.
Step 3: When you do that the browser will be divided into two halves. The lower half will show some code (as in the image below). Search for something like that highlighted in blue.
Step 4: Double click on the type=”password” and change it to type=”text”.
Step 5: The moment you hit Enter after changing the code your password will be revealed in the password text box.

Conclusion
So, have you forgotten a password and want it back? It shows on the login form but you cannot read it? You want to verify that you are typing the correct password? This is probably the easiest way to do that. Good web design relies on several factors, one of which is the right placement of every element. Tape is a Chrome extension to help web designers with this by allowing you to add rulers to a web page. Tape goes beyond what common pixel-measuring extensions offer; it doesn’t just tell you the area occupied by a particular element in pixels, but also lets you add as many rulers to the browser interface as you want, to measure and outline the relative distance of different elements from each other. You can add rulers both horizontally and vertically, define origin points (yes, more than one), and set the pointer to automatically snap to different elements in a web page as you move over them, much like in Photoshop. Tape is enabled on a webpage through a button and is controlled solely through your keyboard. Obviously, the web page itself does not remain functional while Tape is enabled, so you won’t miss the normal key functionality.
Once installed, click the extension’s button next to the URL bar to enable it. A small popup will appear at the bottom left, listing the keyboard shortcuts and their functions. Your cursor will automatically change in to a ruler with both horizontal and vertical lines. As you move your cursor across the web page, you will notice it snaps to the elements (highlighted in red). Consult the list of keyboard functions to determine how to add a ruler. Most of these shortcuts are quite intuitive to begin with; for instance, you can use the H and L keys respectively to add horizontal and vertical ruler lines.
You can drop both a vertical and horizontal line that originate from the same point by positioning your cursor over it and hitting the O key. Tape is excellent for working with large design elements, and also offers a magnifying tool that will allow you to add rulers to smaller elements. To activate the magnifying tool (called the Loupe), hit the L key with Tape enabled, and your cursor will magnify whatever you move it over.
The rulers that Tape enables can accurately accommodate even the small display elements, and creating a good grid around them is very easy. Perhaps the best feature of the extension is that if you deactivate Tape on a page after drawing a grid on it, it will remember your old markings whenever you next activate it, so long as you do not refresh the page, close the tab, or exit browser.
Tape is quite fast and very responsive, and we found no reason to complain about in our testing. The features are enough for every web designer who uses Chrome to give it a try.

Create Natively Syncing Notes In Google Chrome With Papercuts
There are countless note-taking extensions available for many popular web browsers, but the ones that save and sync your notes across computers usually rely on a third-party service at the back end for the purpose and if you don’t have an account on the service already, you end up having to sign up for it just to be able to sync your notes across different browsers and devices. Some extensions lack a sync feature altogether, and the notes are only accessible from the browser you made them in. Papercuts is a Chrome extension that relies solely on Chrome’s own sync feature to sync the notes you create between different installations of the browser. The notes themselves can be of any length, and each one has it’s own title. Papercuts adds its button next to the URL bar, and lets you work on multiple notes at the same time under different tabs in the extension’s popup window. You can also copy the entire text from a note with just a single click.
Before you start using Papercuts, make sure you have Chrome sync set up and that you have enabled extensions to sync. If you haven’t done so already, just go to Chrome Settings, sign in with your Google account and make extension syncing is enabled. You will have to sign in with the same Google account and keep extension syncing enabled like this on all Chrome installations that you want to access your notes from.
Once done with the sync configuration, you can launch the extension by clicking its button. Tabs are located at the top and multiple notes can be tiled over each other in each tab. A note can also be dragged from one tab to the other. To add a note, click the plus sign at the bottom, while to add a new tab, click the plus sign at the top.The left/right arrows above all notes allows you to move through the different notes you have in a particular tab. The drag icon next to a note label lets you move the note to a different tab. You can drag the corner of a note to resize its text area. The small arrow at the left of each label lets you collapse or expand a note, and the copy icon under it lets you copy the text from that note to your clipboard with one click.
At the bottom, there is a notebook button that will open all your notes and tabs in a separate Chrome tab for a larger UI that’s easier to work with. You can assign a keyboard shortcut to any nine notes from here, though this didn’t seem to work for us in our testing.
Next to the notebook button is a cog wheel button that opens Papercuts’ options. The options allow you to select a background color for your notes, and change the width of the popup.
Lastly, according to the extension’s feature list, if you select text on a web page and right-click it, you will be able to add it to a note in Papercuts. We did get the option in the context menu, but the feature didn’t work in our testing. However, pasting the contents of any of your notes into a text field using the context menu worked fine.
